DualCom GPRS

DualCom GPRS is an advanced communication device for secure alarm reporting, compliant to Grade 2 and 3 of the EN standards. It transmits alarm signals to the aim ARC via the GPRS network, PSTN and with the optional LAN card, via the internet.

The IP path uses a TCP/IP connection to include compatibility with Broadband/WAN/LAN. DualCom IP can either replace the PSTN path or be used in addition, creating up to three diverse routes on alarm transmission. (aim has not adopted this function yet and prior to adopting this, testing would need to be carried out with interested parties)

As with all radio transmission systems, a site survey should always be carried out to ensure to ensure adequate GPRS signal strength is available at the site. (For a GPRS signal strength prediction call 01895474444 and quote the property postcode). Alternatively a Vodafone GSM phone can give an indication of the signal strength at the site.

The unit is ordered via aim administration and is delivered to you fully programmed and ready for immediate connection.

When DualCom GPRS is triggered it initiates calls to the aim ARC over all available communication paths. Once it receives an acknowledgement from one path it clears the other paths so that we only receive one notification. The speed of transmission surpasses the older GSM technology, hence its suitability for sending alarm signals. Rather than having to ‘dial-up’ for a connection, GPRS systems are permanently switched on and transmit instantaneously. Another popular feature of GPRS is its low operating costs.

The test function sends calls on all available paths to ensure all are working correctly, this means that every test of this system must incorporate this test but it is not necessary to test all the active pins on all transmission paths.

DualCom monitors all communications paths fully, a fault on one path is reported to us using the other functioning paths. Bell delays are maintained unless all paths are in fault.
